Blue Shield of California Foundation

 

Eligibility Guidelines

 

To be eligible for a Blue Shield of California Foundation grant, organizations must meet the following criteria:

 

We Fund

  • Organizations that are non-profit and tax-exempt under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code (IRC) and defined as a public charity under 509(a) 1, 2, or 3 (types I, II, or a functionally integrated type III)
  • Accredited schools
  • Units of government/public agencies
  • Tribal governments

We Don’t Fund

  • Award dinners, athletic events, competitions, special events, or tournaments
  • Conferences or seminars
  • Capital construction
  • Television/film/media production
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes
  • Political causes, candidates, organizations or campaigns
  • Capital projects over $50,000
  • Multi-year projects (generally)
  • Grants to individuals (with the exception of the regulated Blue Shield of California Employee Scholarship Program)
  • Grants to 509 (a) 3, type III supporting organizations that are not "functionally integrated"
