Health Care and Coverage

We envision a future in which every Californian has access to affordable, high-quality health care. To achieve this vision, we're providing technical assistance to state and local policymakers to successfully implement national health reform, and supporting safety net institutions that are the essential health providers in their communities.  

These efforts focus on expanding coverage to millions of uninsured Californians and optimizing the ability of California’s safety net providers to serve as integral players in the broader healthcare delivery system.

Blue Shield Against Violence

The Foundation believes that ending domestic violence requires a strong, coordinated network of services, new knowledge about reaching highest-need populations, and a unified policy agenda. To this end, we’re investing in efforts that strengthen California's current safety net — and building a stronger domestic violence field to lead change for tomorrow.

Legacy Projects

Three Foundation legacy projects fall outside of the focus of our two program areas. The California Technology Assessment Forum (CTAF) reviews the effectiveness of new medical technologies. The California Healthcare-Associated Infection Prevention Initiative (CHAIPI), which will conclude its work in 2010, focuses on promoting quality and safety in care. And the Domestic Violence Workplace Training Program, operated by the Foundation until 2008, helped employers recognize and prevent domestic violence in the workplace. Read More
